Job Overview

The Spa Director is responsible for the smooth and profitable functioning of the Spa division as a department and business center.

The role is responsible for managing and supervising all areas of the spa, including reservations, quality of services, hours of operation, facilities and staff. They will coordinate the delivery of spa bookings in conjunction with the hotel reservation and reception Front of House teams for services including spa, hydrotherapy, aesthetics and retail. As a department head they will lead the Spa supervisory team to successfully execute all spa operations. This role is required to strive continually in the areas of improve guest satisfaction and maximise the financial performance of the spa. The Spa Director will be responsible for building a successful and motivated team and to ensure all operational procedures, codes of conduct and professionalism is followed by team members at all times.

Total Experience

Minimum 3 years experience as a Spa Director, Assistant Director or Manager level, within a 5* reputable, hotel brand. Experience in managing a variety of spa and wellness treatments and experiences including spa, hydrotherapy, beauty, aesthetic and retail.

Job Specific Qualifications Required
  • CIBTAC, CIDESO, HND, BTEC, IHBC or equivalent
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Spa and Hospitality is preferred however not essential

Core Job Functions & Responsibilities

 

Managing Spa Operations and Budgets
  • Meet budget requirements with an emphasis on profitability, responsible for forecasting, managing and analyzing financial data to improve business performance.
  • Supervise spa reservations and maintain spa menus and signature treatments that ensure the highest yield and customer service while distinguishing the spa from competitors.
  • Oversee and organize scheduling for efficient resource management to ensure profitability and sustainability of internal and external relationships without any detriment to the business.
  • Oversees and ensures appropriate inventory management and merchandising of retail areas.
  • Administer goods, requisitions, inventories, and cost-effective usage of all department related materials and assets to be well within operating costs.
  • Manage vendors and the vendors contract agreements for spa retail operations.
  • Implements retail product research, product selection and purchasing for retail sales.
  • Manages supply inventories and purchasing control, including uniforms.
  • Drives and monitors the spa’s actual and projected sales to ensure revenue goals are met or exceeded.
Managing Spa Revenue Management Strategy
  • Monitors and manages the payroll function.
  • Manages areas of operation to the budget by reviewing operating statements, budget worksheets and payroll progress reports.
  • Ensures the spa supervisor cost control and inventories are in line with the P&L objectives, coaching, training and ensuring each manager has what they need to meet the monthly financial objectives.
  • Manages spa controllable expenses such as guest amenities, linen expense, professional spa products, plants, decorations, and all other supplies to achieve or exceed budget goals.
Marketing Spa Sales and Marketing Strategy
  • The Spa Director must prepare and plan the best marketing practices for the spa, bring forward innovative and effective promotional ideas and implement the same.
  • Plan and create spa events, workshops and other sales and marketing activities together with the hotel PR department.
  • Creates and coordinates special services for groups including group gifting programs, group amenities, group turn down letters and invitations.
  • Develops and manages spa promotions and marketing activities, including gifting programs, gift with purchase, co-op marketing efforts and holiday events.
Human Resources
  • Conducts such functions as interviewing, hiring, orientation, appraisal, coaching, counseling and performance management as necessary, to ensure appropriate staffing and productivity. Consults with Director of Human Resources and General Manager as appropriate.
  • Organize, lead and attend the Spa team daily briefing communicating the business objectives of the day, week and month.
Operations Compliance
  • Maintain all applicable business licenses and permits, as well as all employee certifications and licenses, as required.
  • Practice and implement methods that comply to sanitation, health and safety guidelines established by local regulations and the Property’s Policies and Procedures protocols.
  • Have excellent knowledge of all plant room procedures, water balance control, water disinfections and ph. levels and oversee the operations manager and engineering teams are compliant with necessary standards followed.
  • Co-ordinate, delegate, oversee and be responsible for daily spa operations and to ensure that a high standard of service is maintained.
Training
  • Identify training needs and create SOP’s and training collaterals when appropriate.
  • Supervises the spa supervisors monthly team training schedules, to ensure that they are in line with guest feed back and business needs.
  • Responsible for the implementation of all spa teams ongoing training plans, quality assessment and performance development plans.
