Setting new benchmarks for luxury wellness in the region

The Bulgari Resort & Residences Dubai officially opens today (7th December 2017), bringing sophisticated Italian luxury to Dubai’s hospitality sector. The 158,000 sqm. property – situated on the exclusive, manmade Jumeirah Bay Island – was designed by the renowned Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel and Partners to feel like a Mediterranean village, and features a 101-key resort, six residential buildings with a total of 173 apartments, 15 private mansions and Bulgari’s first ever marina and yacht club.

The 1,700 sqm. BVLGARI SPA is one of the resort’s defining features, and brings a new level of refined luxury to Dubai’s wellness offerings. The spa’s extensive and luxurious facilities include a 25-metre signature Bulgari swimming pool and vitality pool, a 24-hour Workshop Gymnasium, a luxurious hammam suite, seven individual treatment rooms, one couples treatment suite with rhassoul, mosaic-clad aroma steam rooms, a sauna, rainforest showers, an ice fountain, a classic Italian barber, and hair and nail services.

To bring the spa into operational reality, GOCO Hospitality, an international wellness hospitality consultancy and management firm, worked closely with the Bulgari team and product partners to help develop the spa’s range of treatments, including a set of signature spa journeys, as well as deliver pre-opening training to ensure the spa team was ready to provide exceptional levels of service.

The spa’s Kahraman journey begins with an envelopment of the body in soothing argan and sweet almond oil and then makes use of ancient Baltic amber powder salts, widely known for their healing properties, to exfoliate the skin. This is followed by a stress-relieving 90-minute massage and an amber body wrap.

Meanwhile, the Majestic Hammam Journey takes place in the Bulgari Spa’s dedicated hammam suite, in which guests enjoy this traditional Middle Eastern experience where they are cleansed with natural black soap and a detoxifying body balm made from sesame oil and honey extract. Added to this is a ceremonial body massage that combines stretching and deep tissue movements that melt away muscular tensions, and concludes with a scalp massage, hair mask and facial.

Ingo Schweder, founder and CEO of GOCO Hospitality, commented, “The UAE is by far the region’s leader in wellness tourism, with wellness tourism making up over 13% of total tourism revenues, bringing in around US$2.72 billion from 1.7 million wellness tourism-related trip. Wellness trips have grown by almost 18% over the past five years, while at the same time overall tourism has grown just over 8%. This makes providing a strong spa and wellness experience an important competitive advantage for hotels and resorts”.

Schweder adds that, “Bulgari Hotels & Resorts clearly understands the importance of developing a top-quality spa and wellness offering for today’s luxury traveller, and it has been a pleasure to work so closely with the talented Bulgari team in helping to shape their wellness service here at Bulgari Resorts & Residences Dubai. Bulgari have developed one of the most luxurious spas in the country, one that will act as a benchmark for future resort developments across the region”.
